Yoga Journal: Contemplating Change and Energy

I am currently taking an online teacher training course and am loving it and inspired about finding out where I use my energy and why I feel in a funk.

Historically, we have always been questioning existence, like Plato and Aristotle, however now we are so turned on by so many external stimuli, it is more difficult to pull ourselves away from it all to and go inward. We feel ashamed, or at least I did, when I just spent time getting to know or just being by myself.

Now I thrive on it. Or at least I did, until recently when I got into a funk. And the personal inquiry slowed way down. So here I am to keep my self-accountable, and hopefully inspire a few of you on your journey too!

Today in class, it was discussed that in order to add new things into our life, we have to let go of something that no longer serves us. Which seems logical enough, but it gets trickier…

Fear and Commitment

“Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” Mario Andretti

Commitment – The Struggle is Real

So let’s get real. I started this blog over 2 years ago after leaving my job to travel the world. I figured that I would just magically put together posts of all the beautiful places and cool adventures that I saw and did. As you can see by the lack of posts on here, it didn’t exactly happen that way.

Instead, I would brainstorm about how to put my experience out there, trying to be perfect, to the point where it no longer seemed fun. Or I would begin to sift through THOUSANDS of pictures and then again, get overwhelmed and stop. Or I would Pinterest until my eyes turned red, trying to get ideas for how to display the content and then have to catch a bus and not come back to it for a few weeks. It just kept happening like this over and over. Great ideas and plans, but a huge lack of commitment.

I find myself very frustrated at times. Lately, I have been focusing lots of energy, yoga practice, and meditation on why I have such a hard time committing. I kept coming back to one “feeling”, one overarching thought.

You know what it is? FEAR. Silly and totally consuming fear.

Exploring Patience: Yoga and Life

Meditation on Patience

Why did I start exploring patience?

Well, the other day I was aggressively moving into a balance posture that I can do but not with ease and stability, that is certain! My breath was getting short and I just felt like I was pushing into the pose instead of letting it happen. I found that I tend to rush forward and work on the next hardest posture or push my body into new places instead of being more curious in the place I am in. Patience was something I needed to invest some time in.

I see all these beautiful posts online of asanas that are gorgeous. And I think to myself,  I want to do that too…duh. Enter my ego. It jumps in and convinces me that I must get in those postures, now. Like today. That kind of ridiculous urgency that only the ego can drive us into.

“A waiting person is a patient person. The word patience means the willingness to stay where we are and live the situation out to the full in the belief that something hidden there will manifest itself to us.” ― Henri J.M. Nouwen

Tropical Green Smoothie

Whether it feels like a 100 degrees outside, or you just want an easy and refreshing snack or meal, this Tropical Green Smoothie is it! This is my go-to here in Aruba!

Often in tropical places that I travel I want something light for breakfast, lunch or a snack. The time of day changes but the yummy-ness stays the same! This is almost always exactly what my body needs.

While Aruba has been a little more challenging for finding fresh fruit varieties at a minimal price, most of these tropical countries have bountiful types of fruit and it is CHEAP! Side Note:Guatemala and Thailand come in for the wins on cheapest most accessible DELICIOUS fruit! Anyway, we still save a lot of money and get a ton of nutrients by making this delicious smoothie any where I am traveling in the world!

2016 – Travels and Life in Review

Happy New Years! I couldn’t be more excited for the year to come, but 2016 was so AMAZING that it deserves some review. Last year was one for the books: an emotional, spiritual and adventurous rollercoaster that has forever changed my life.

At some point about 2 years ago, a light bulb in my soul lit up. I had to make a change. I had to make myself happy again. I had been stuck in a stressful rut and was unhappy with my day to day life.

For a long, long time I had wanted to travel and see the world.

But in order to be “successful”, I couldn’t leave a job. I would never achieve “success” in that way. But I couldn’t have been more wrong.
